How-to: Format WD My Passport External Hard Drive to Work for Mac and Windows

The new WD My Passport external hard drives by default are setup for Windows computer. In this tutorial I will show you how to reformat your hard drive so you can use it on both a Mac and Windows computer.

How-to: Reformat WD My Passport Hard Drive for Mac

1. Open Disk Utility (search for it in Spotlight Search or go to Launchpad > Other folder > Disk Utility).

2. Select hard drive and hit Erase.

3. Set format to ExFat and scheme to Master Boot Record.

These settings will allow the WD My Passport external hard drive to read and write on both Mac and Windows computer.
